What are cookies?

Today, almost all websites use cookies, which are often necessary to make it possible to deliver services on the sites.

Cookies are small text files that are stored on the user’s IT equipment (PC, tablet, smartphone, etc.) to allow the site to recognise this equipment. Cookies can, for example, be used to generate web statistics about how visitors use a website and to optimise the site content. Cookies are what are known as ‘passive files’ and therefore cannot collect data from a user’s computer. Cookies cannot spread computer viruses or any other type of harmful software. Some cookies are placed by third parties, i.e. companies other than the one stated in the browser’s address line (URL). These may feature in ordinary content, but can also be applied to analysis tools or embedded comment fields, for example. This means that the user’s IT equipment may store cookies from parties other than the owner of the website the user is visiting.

Some cookies are only stored on the user’s IT equipment while the user’s browser is open (session cookies), while others are stored for longer (persistent cookies). When the user returns to a website, session cookies will be re-installed, while persistent cookies will typically be renewed.

How can I remove/avoid cookies?

If you are using a Windows-based computer, you can delete cookies by pressing [CTRL]+[SHIFT]+[Delete].

If this does not work, or if you are working on a Mac computer, click the link in the browser you are using:

Why are we providing information about cookies?

The owners of all Danish websites are obliged to inform users about the cookies they are placing on the users’ computer equipment. The information must comply with the provisions of the Danish Ministerial order concerning requirements on information and consent with reference to the storing of and access to information in end users terminal equipment (Bekendtgørelse om krav til information og samtykke ved lagring af og adgang til oplysninger i slutbrugeres terminaludstyr) – commonly known as the ‘Cookie Order’.
